Persona Doll Training is a charity founded on and committed to the elimination of unfair discrimination on the grounds of ethnic or national origin, gender, disability, sexuality, religion or age.
Persona Doll Training was registered as a charity in 2003. Since then we have provided training in the UK, Germany, Iceland, New Zealand, Turkey, Hungary and across the rest of Eastern Europe. Our sister organisation, Persona Doll Training South Africa is flourishing too.
The charity is run by six dedicated Trustees who keep a close watch on proceedings and o operating costs to ensure that every penny we receive goes towards keeping the charity afloat. The day-to-day work is carried out by the Coordinator who attends Trustee meetings but has no vote.
Teachers use the Persona Doll approach to encourage children to respond appropriately to other people’s feelings. They help them understand that name calling, teasing, harassing and exclusion from play causes pain just like hitting, kicking and punching do.
Children soak up stereotypes and prejudices from the world around them.
In his book, Long Walk to Freedom, Nelson Mandela wrote:
No one is born hating another person because of the colour of their skin, or their background or their religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than it’s opposite.
